At Math4NL we believe mathematics can help solving several technical, societal, economic and social problems. And we have experienced that connecting mathematicians to industrial and societal organisations is not always straight-forward.

Math4NL is the contact centre for industry, societal organisations and mathematicians. We do this by providing support for transferring mathematical knowledge to industry and vice versa.
Novel mathematics inspired by societal challenges
The best way to explain how societal challenges can be solved with novel mathematics is by showing some real life stories.

The Royal Dutch Lawn Tennis Association (KNLTB) was looking for an improved ranking methodology for Double players in national and regional official competitions, which has to become a better indicator of the tennis skills and better predictor for results of future matches.
Determining the weight of turkeys
Study Group Mathematics with Industry 2019 was held at Wageningen University & Research. Topics went from traffic lights to towing tanks, from chips to carbon filters and from force plates to 3D prints in concrete.
And they tried to come up with an approach for determining the weight of turkeys while walking on pressure plates hidden under the floor.
